Down by the Bay book-Kids Project

Today was "Watermelon Day" for preschool. We read the book, "Down by the Bay", sang the song with Raffi, made watermelon art, ate watermelon and made a "Down by the Bay" book.

I created this book for preschool age kids. You can adapt it for older kids by having each line on a page and have the kids illustrate the entire picture. Since I was doing this with preschool kids, I put pictures on each page and they could add onto it. For example, "A fly wearing a tie", there is a picture of a fly and the kids draw a tie.

Here is the book for preschool kids, click on the picture for a bigger image and then download.

We also sang some watermelon songs like this one:

The Watermelon Song -sung to "Are you Sleeping?"

Watermelon, (Make a circle with your arms)
Watermelon,
One the vine, (Curve hands and arms beside body)
On the vine,
Sweet and red and juicy, (Rub your tummy)
Sweet and red and juicy,

Please be mine! (Palms together as though pleading)
Please be mine!

Watermelon, (Make a circle with your arms)
Watermelon,
Thump, thump, thump,
I think you are ready- (Point resting finger on your temple)
I think you are ready-
Big and plump! (Make a circle with your arms)
Big and plump!
